San Ysidro Ranch Wedding with Elizabeth Messina Featured & Joel Serrato on Style Me Pretty!

San Ysidro Ranch and its famous lavender field pretty much guarantees a gorgeous day but it doesn’t get there all on its own. Behind the scenes of this affair is a team worthy of all star status. From the design by Jill Lafleur, to the florals by Camilla Svensson Burns, to the wildly beautiful photos by Elizabeth Messina and the film by Joel Serrato, every layer is oozing romance. From Jill La Fleur… San Ysidro Ranch is one of the most beautiful and romantic resorts in the world, so it’s obviously a perfect place (and one of my favorites!) to have an intimate wedding! Samie and Dan had a vision that they wanted to create working with the romance and the natural beauty of the property. The bride particularly loved the fragrant lavender and the floral gardens, so we used those as inspiration throughout her wedding. We created a palate of soft, romantic tones of blush, ivory, champagne and touches of silvery green in the lush flowers. Lavender sprigs, peonies, lambs ear and garden roses were prominent. The escort cards were placed in antique wooden boxes filled with lavender. A romantic crystal chandelier hung at the natural garden arch. The bride wore a gorgeous gown by Ulla-Maija called the “Laine” dress. And their invitation suite from HelloLucky complimented the soft, elegant style of the wedding.

The Bride walked up the aisle to the elegant, classical sounds of a harp and carried a bouquet of white and blush peonies infused with Lamb’s Ear and Lavender, while the Bridal party carried soft bouquets of baby’s breath…so utterly romantic!
We continued the soft tones throughout the reception with Tuscany silver linens by La Tavola and added some color and romance to the tables with antique place settings and blush crystal goblets by Casa de Perrin. The couple chose their favorite wedding cake covered in fresh berries made by the Pastry Chef at San Ysidro Ranch.

True love and romance filled the air at this beautiful wedding, and I loved being a part of helping to create this soft, elegant, romantic ambiance for the couple at one of my favorite wedding venues! And it was all captured so beautifully by the talented photographer, Elizabeth Messina and cinematographer, Joel Serrato!

Ojai Wedding Featured in Wedding Sparrow!

Elegant Californian real wedding

I love it when we get to see a bride and groom through their journey from newly engaged to just wed. We featured Michelle and Zach’s utterly beautiful beach engagement session shot entirely on film by the talented Lacie Hansen Photography and now we get to come full circle and show off their Ojai wedding day too. A truly fine art team created a special day for Michelle and Zach with soft florals in muted tones from Camilla Svensson Burns, elegant bridal hair and make up from TEAM Hair and Makeup, all expertly planned by Jill from La Fleur Weddings. This is one elegant Californian real wedding…

From the Bride, Michelle: “Zach and I met in passing in July 2009 at mutual friend’s going away party in San Francisco, where I lived at the time. Zach flew in from New York City to surprise his friend that evening, and he walked into the party just as I was preparing to leave. There was an immediate and undeniable spark, comfort and connection between us. We both felt it almost immediately. But the timing wasn’t right then for anything beyond conversation; so, we went our separate ways.”

“Just over a year later, our paths crossed again when I planned a trip to the Hamptons with girlfriends. I wrote to Zach to ask him where us girls should stay, play, eat and sun. After he gave me oodles of thoughtful advice, we continued writing and getting to know each other. A few weeks later. he asked if he could visit me in San Francisco. I was absolutely delighted by his offer, and one beyond expectations first date later, our bi-coastal romance was born!”

“Over the next seven months, we spent tons of time on the phone and shared several exciting weekend trips and holidays, together — our most romantic being Labor Day Weekend in Santa Barbara. That winter I became a rather adept traveler, honed my skill of functioning at a reasonable level without sleep, developed into a somewhat accomplished skier (due to my patient, understanding, talented and handsome instructor), and fell head over heels in love with my husband to be!”

“In May 2011, we decided it was time to close the gap and that I would move to New York to live with Zach. Four months later, I packed up my life and left my dearest friends and beloved California in search of true and lasting love in the Big Apple.”

“Thankfully, our transition from long distance to inseparable was more seamless than we imagined it would be. Despite the frantic pace of our lives in NYC, we quickly called one another our best friend and recognized what a profound blessing it would be to spend forever together. Zach proposed the following summer on the beach in Montauk (the most California-esque spot in New York), and the rest is history!”

“Zach and I fell in love with Santa Barbara area on our first weekend trip there together. We returned as a newly-engaged couple a year later, and we knew the moment that we stepped onto the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa property that it was the place where we would be married. The serenity, purity and natural beauty of the Ojai Valley brought me to tears when I first experienced it, and it will forever hold a special place in our hearts. We absolutely loved sharing its magic with our wedding guests!”

Swedish Wedding Featured in Destination I Do Magazine!

A Sweet Swedish Wedding

Melanie and Joakim are an NYC couple who have traveled to more than two dozen countries together! Their love of travel combined with Joakim’s Swedish heritage made a destination wedding the obvious choice for this longtime couple. “The most important thing to us was that all of our closest friends and family from both sides could attend,” says Melanie. “My friends and family are from the New York City area and his friends and family are from a small village in western Sweden…”

The couple didn’t want either side of their families to have to spend too much money to meet in the middle, so choosing the central hub of Stockholm, Sweden was the perfect solution. “We didn’t want the guest list to be heavily skewed towards one side or the other,” says the bride. “Stockholm was actually the most convienent location for everyone – an easy, direct flight from NYC and a reasonable drive, train ride or one-hour flight for our Swedish guests. We had exactly 80 guests – 39 Swedes and 41 non-Swedes…which was exactly what we were going for!”

Joakim and Melanie dated for seven years before getting engaged, so their NYC friends couldn’t have been more excited to visit Sweden and see where the groom was from. As the couple put it, “Our friends are the best!”

While the couple’s wedding was absolutely breathtaking, largely thanks to their dramatic destination, it wasn’t without struggles. In fact, the couple went through two different wedding planners before finally finding the perfect fit just two months before the wedding! “The biggest issue was finding a wedding planner to help us out,” says the bride. “The care and precision to planning weddings in Sweden is not at the same level as what we American brides are used to. Planning from NYC with both of us working and with busy schedules – an organized, efficient and detail-oriented planner was essential.”

“We fired the first [Swedish planner] because she wasn’t very responsive and pushed back on us wanting to get things gone in advance.” The couple’s second planner committed to the project without realizing the scope of the wedding and later realized she couldn’t handle the job. In the end, the couple’s photographer and friend, Alicia Swedenborg, put the couple in touch with Jill LaFleur and Camilla Svensson Burns. “[It’s a] long story how a NYC-based couple getting married in Stockholm ended up with a California-based planner, but needless to say, it all worked out perfectly!”

The couple’s goal to create a convenient destination for all of their guests paid off with the beautiful city of Stockholm. “[Travel logistics were] super easy,” says the couple. “Stockholm has a high-speed train that goes from the airport to the city center in 15 minutes and the train station was only a five-minute walk from the hotel that most guests stayed at. Luckily, no one got lost! Stockholm is a beautiful, walkable, bikable ciry with lots to see and do – and lots of beautiful people as our single friends discovered!”

While the couple struggled to find a wedding planner who was a fit for them, they still describe the overall planning process as being great. “I think it helps that Joakim and I are extremely organized, yet laid back about styling details, which would have been difficult to control from abroad,” says Melanie. “We stayed organized with our vendors and regarding the logistics of the weekend, yet we didn’t stress over things like what our flowers or place settings would look like. I literally didn’t even know what my bouquet would consist of until it was delivered to my hotel!

The couple have a two-part plan to hosting the most wonderful destination wedding: have a wedding which celebrates your love and is the most meaningful for you, and always consider your guests’ experience. “Our guests all travelled a long way to share this occasion with us, so we wanted them to have a unique experience that they could not have gotten anywhere else. We chose a unique reception venue (even by Swedish standards) and a church with lots of history – older than America itself. We changed scenery by having the cocktail hour outside, the dinner in a glass tent, the dancing in a fortress, firedancers and late night eats back outside, then a party boat as an optional afterparty. Our guests said they were never bored, even though it was from 4pm-4am! A successful wedding is really all about the crowd having a great time!”

Engagement Shoot Featured on Pottery Barn Blog!

An Inspiring Engagement Shoot With Plenty of Pottery Barn Love

alealovely-61

Wedding planner and stylist Jill La Fleur and Alea Lovely Photography planned this inspirational shoot for newly engaged couples starring several Pottery Barn accessories. La Fleur’s love for Fall initiated the idea for this shoot. “Being from Chicago originally, I absolutely love fall and was excited to do something a little different from what you normally see in California.”

alealovely-62

A fiery red dress and our Martin Fair Isle Cozy Throw pay tribute to the season’s brightest hues and stand out against a neutral California backdrop.

alealovely-70
alealovely-79

Oso Flaco Lake, on California’s Central Coast, offered the team a secluded environment where they could bring their vision of an afternoon stroll, lakeside picnic and beach exploration to life.

alealovely-81

“The lake is a bit of an undiscovered beauty and very romantic,” says La Fleur.

alealovely-95

Our cozy knits and plaids from this season were a perfect match for the location. La Fleur mixed textures and patterns in clothing and props to create an elegant, stylish, cozy and casual setting.

alealovely-74

She even used a Cozy Cable Knit Throw and a Jacquelyne Rattan Curve Lidded Basket to set up an impromptu picnic for the magnetic couple.

alealovely-97

Behind the scenes tidbit: Although this inspirational shoot stars two models, their chemistry was so great that the models planned to get together for a date after the photo shoot.
